Lymphedema Update by Sandie Sanderson MSPT, CLT-LANA

A record number of Thrivers attended this informative review and update of lymphedema on March 12. Remember . . . Lymphedema can occur many years after surgery or radiation. Watch for swelling, a feeling of fullness or heaviness or changes in sensation. Wear a compression garment when flying. Avoid having blood pressure taken on the affected arm. Monitor any cuts or abrasions on skin. Report changes to your healthcare professional.

February Thrivers Education Focused on Colorectal Cancer Screening & Risk Reduction Strategies

Cheryl Syta, Nurse Practitioner, Samaritan Hospital Cancer Treatment Center, educated the group on the warning signs of colon cancer and the importance of being aware of any changes in bodily functions. Colon cancer is preventable, screenable and treatable. Colonoscopy is the best method of screening for this disease. Risk reduction strategies include anti-inflammatory eating in order to assist our immune system to inhibit cancer potentials.

Bonnie Riddell (pictured on the right), a breast cancer Thriver, hosted a Tastefully Simple fundraiser at her home on Friday, January 16, 2015. Consultant Lori Beston-Genito (pictured left) provided the group with delicious samples of many of the products available. A good time was had by all! Thanks to attendees and to those who could not attend but placed orders online. Over $100 was raised to benefit the Nancy B. Clemente Cancer Fund. Thank you!

Raffle Winner Donates Winnings!

On November 29, 2014, Joe Hovan graciously hosted a group of family and friends to Madison Square Garden to watch a NY Rangers game. Much to our surprise, the group held a 50-50 raffle raising $730. The winner was Tommy Warth who turned over his winnings to the Nancy B. Clemente Cancer Fund. Thank you Tommy for your generosity! The Fund will pay it forward by continuing on with our mission to provide educational programs in our community.
